Description
Christ Church is an Anglican parish church built in 1841 by architects Wyatt and Brandon. It features small ashlar block walls with low-pitched slate roofs, coped gables, and an ashlar octagonal west bellcote. The church consists of a nave, transepts, and a shallow chancel projection, with shallow buttresses. The west front has a four-centred arched doorway with a flat hoodmould and carved head stops, a small leaded light above, and a bellcote supported by two carved angel corbels. The bellcote is topped with an ogee stone cap and an ornate finial. The rest of the church is relatively plain, with a tall leaded two-light window that has flat heads and ogee-tracery. The nave has two windows, with one similar window at the south transept end and single lights on the transept sides. The north transept includes a projecting north vestry. The east end features a coped gable, diagonal buttresses, and a short projecting chancel with a three-light segmental-pointed east window. Inside, the church has a plain interior with boarded roofs and tie-beam trusses, a west gallery, and a moulded arch leading to the sanctuary. There is a plain panelled pulpit, possibly from the 18th century, and low box pews.
