Description

Highway House is a house dating from the 1840s and 1850s. It is constructed from a mix of ashlar and coursed rubble, with a Welsh slate roof. The house follows a rectangular, double-depth central entry plan, with a wing attached to the north (partially built of red brick). The main (west) elevation has two storeys and three bays, featuring sixteen-pane sashes. A later, solid porch now fronts the entrance, concealing an original four-panel door. Inside, original joinery and a marble fire surround are visible in the southwest room, along with a straight flight stick baluster stair. The south elevation incorporates two paired four-pane sashes on each floor. The rear elevation has a six-panel door with two glazed panels, a sixteen-pane sash on the ground floor, and two twelve-pane sashes above. A single-storey wing to the left also features a sixteen-pane sash.
