Description
The barn at Fitz House is a 15th-century structure built from rubble stone and topped with a thatched roof. It features six bays and is oriented with its gable end facing the road. There are opposing entrances in the third bay from the road, each with double planked doors. The north side has one loophole on either side, while the south side has two loopholes flanking the door, which is topped by a brick segmental arch. The gable end facing the road includes a chamfered loophole. Inside, the barn has six pairs of raised crucks with collars and two tiers of through purlins, supported by curved windbracing. The west bay is divided by a brick partition wall, and a floor was inserted here, likely in the 19th century; this area was used as a milking parlour until the mid-20th century.
