Description

Rupert Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with yellow headers and limestone dressings, with a double Roman tiled roof and gable end brick stacks. The cottage has a gabled end facing the road. It is a two-storey, five-window structure. The central entrance features a 6-panelled door within a roll-moulded stone surround, topped with a 20th-century flat wooden hood supported by brackets. To either side of the door are two 2-light, beaded flush mullioned casement windows. A stone plat band runs across the first floor, above which are two 2-light, beaded flush mullioned casements either side of a central single casement set within a beaded stone architrave; two of these architraves are modern concrete replacements. The left return wall is of dressed limestone and is windowless. A 20th-century two-storey flat-roofed extension is located at the rear. During a survey in February 1986, the interior was not accessible but was reported to contain a corner open fireplace with a chamfered lintel on stone jambs. The building is of group value.
