Description
36 and 38 High Street is a pair of houses that have been converted into one shop, dated 1763, with a 20th-century shop front. The building features a rendered brick front, limestone rubble on the return and rear, and limestone dressings, along with brick gable stacks and a stone slate roof. It has a double-depth plan and consists of two storeys and an attic, with a four-window range. The full-width shop front includes rusticated quoins above and to the right-hand jamb of the shop front recess. There are keyed 6/6-pane sashes in exposed boxes, with the middle pair positioned closer together, and two gabled dormers featuring metal leaded casements, one of which is inscribed AGI/1763. The rear right-hand range extends from the left side of the building towards No. 50 St Dennis Lane. Inside, notable features include a rear right-hand stair, a central attic winder stair, and a roof with through purlins.
