Description
Newcourt and Newcourt Farmhouse comprise a pair of semi-detached houses, dating to the late 17th century. They are constructed of English bond brick with limestone quoins, featuring tiled roofs and brick stacks with toothed capping. The properties are arranged as an H-plan, with each house exhibiting a T-shaped layout.
Newcourt Farmhouse, located to the east, is a two-storey building with a basement and attic, presenting a four-window façade. The central entrance features a half-glazed door set within a bolection-moulded case, topped by an open segmental pediment and flanked by recessed chamfered side-lights. To the right is a single two-light recessed chamfered mullioned window, while to the left are two mullioned windows, all with flat arches and leaded lights. A moulded string course runs along the first floor, above which are four recessed chamfered mullioned windows. The basement level contains two-light mullioned windows, alongside a chamfered doorcase. Four hipped dormers, each with a two-light leaded casement, are situated in the attic. The right return features two-light mullioned windows, some of which are blocked, while the left return has an external stack and similarly blocked windows. A central linking range connects the houses and has a 19th-century four-panelled door with a tiled canopy and two-light mullioned windows to the basement, ground, and first floors; the basement also displays a chamfered doorcase and a blocked door below the 19th-century entrance. A 20th-century extension is present on the ground floor at the rear of the central range, along with 20th-century casements on the first floor.
Newcourt, to the west, is a two-storey building with a basement and attic, displaying a six-window frontage. A planked and studded door is centrally positioned within a bolection-moulded case, topped with an open segmental pediment, chamfered side-lights and a 19th-century gabled porch. Flanking the door are nine-pane sashes in chamfered cases. A string course defines the first floor, above which are five two-light mullioned windows. The basement mirrors the window design. The attic boasts two 19th-century gabled dormers. The right return features plate glass sashes and mullioned windows, while the left return presents mullioned windows.
Inside Newcourt, original turned balusters are visible on the newel stairs, alongside a fine plank and muntin partition that extends to the first floor. Chamfered beams with ogee stops are also present. Newcourt Farmhouse exhibits chamfered beams throughout, with ogee, step, and run-out stops. It features a chamfered stone fireplace and a blocked fireplace with a continuous chamfer. The staircase includes vase balusters, partially concealed by a fine plank and muntin partition, while planked doors with wooden latches lead to the attic. The detailing of the stairs and partitioning closely resembles that found at The Courthouse in Downton.
