Description
By Brook Bridge is a Grade II listed structure made of Bath stone ashlar with narrowly coursed rubble Bath stone walls and parapets above each arch, along with some patching in purple engineering brick. The bridge features a semi-circular arch that begins at water level. The lower part of each side is constructed from Bath stone ashlar, with the abutments and wing walls slightly projecting and sloping towards the springing point of the arch. Above the coping and string course, there is a high wall and parapet made of squared and narrowly coursed Bath stone rubble, topped with iron railings.
On the south (Down) side, the arch is adorned with large rusticated voussoirs and a prominent keystone, extending to the abutments and plain coping above. Much of this side has been carefully refaced in engineering brick, with only the keystone and some outer parts of the keystones remaining in Bath stone. In contrast, the north (Up) side features plain ashlar with a smaller keystone and narrower coping. The soffit is primarily Bath stone, with minor brick patching at the south (Down) end.
