Description
Nos 3 and 4 on The Parade are 16th or 17th century buildings with 18th century or early 19th century fronts. They are timber-framed with whitewashed brick facades and pitched slate roofs. The gable end of No 4 is decorated with fish-scale tiles. The buildings are two storeys high and were probably jettied in the past. On the first floor, there are five sash windows with glazing bars in moulded frames, and one sash window on the ground floor of No 4. No 4 features a double door with fielded panels and a modern door, both flanked by reeded pilasters and topped with blind fanlights. The rest of the ground floor has modern shop fronts. Inside, No 3 contains a chamfered joist, possibly dating from the 16th or 17th century. No 4 has much early 18th century panelling, and in a back room on the first floor, there is a chimney piece and a semi-circular corner cupboard with shaped shelves. Nos 1 to 4 together form a group with No 13 on New Road.
