Description
These are two adjoining buildings, numbered 3 and 4, on the High Street, dated 1739 as indicated by a rainwater head bearing the initials THA. The buildings are three storeys high and have a tile-hung exterior using shaped tiles. They feature a moulded dentilled wooden cornice and a tile-hung parapet with moulded coping. The roof is of old tile. There are eight windows to the upper floors, which lack glazing bars. One of the properties contains a 19th-century shop front, while the other has an early 19th-century butcher's shop with shutters, sheltered by a tiled pent roof supported by columnar elements across the ground floor. Buildings numbered 1 to 12 form a group with the Town Hall, and buildings numbered 131 to 144 and the Midland Bank also contribute to the streetscape.
