Description
Masonic Hall is an early to mid 19th century building located on Oxford Street. It is constructed of red brick and features a pitched slate roof. The building is one storey high on Oxford Street, topped with a moulded stone cornice and a brick pediment that has an inset ashlar panel inscribed with "Masonic Hall." There is a modern door beneath a flat hood supported by cut brackets. A circular panel is framed by grey headers, with trompe l'oeuil glazing bars painted on it. On either side of the entrance, there are two bricked-up round-headed windows that have ashlar sills, keystones, and impost blocks.
The elevation facing New Road has two storeys and a canted front with wide projecting eaves. The central bay features 12-panelled double doors on the ground floor, and on the first floor, there is an ashlar panel inscribed "Masonic Hall" in a moulded frame supported by carved brackets. The flanking bays each have one segment-headed sash window with glazing bars on the ground floor, and above these, there are rendered panels that are round-headed with ashlar sills, keystones, and impost blocks. Masonic Hall at No. 1 forms a group with Nos 1 to 4 on The Parade.
