Description
Dormer Cottage and The Red House are two houses dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with some alterations. They are constructed of red brick with some blue headers in Flemish bond, and the rear and left return feature header-brick and flint bands at the ground and first floors. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The buildings are two storeys high with an attic and consist of five bays. The openings have segmental brick arches.
The three left bays include a central six-panel door, with the top two panels glazed, and a two-light window above it, flanked by three-light windows on both the ground and first floors. There is a plate band at the first floor. The two right bays have an inserted door with a two-light window to its left in the left bay, and in the right bay, there is a bricked-up doorway and a three-light window, with two three-light windows above. The eaves are stepped and dentilled. The half-hipped mansard roof features five two-light gabled dormers. The gable ends have stepped eaves, which are dentilled at the top, and there is a two-light attic window and an inserted door on the left return. A late 20th-century rear conservatory is present but is not of special interest.
