Description
Wickets Green Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the 16th century, with rebuilding in the 17th century. It is constructed of Flemish garden wall bond brick and features a tiled roof with an axial brick stack. The building has a baffle-entry design and an outshut on the east side that encloses a continuous jetty and a stair turret. The central entrance has a 4-panelled door set in a gabled porch, with 20th-century metal casements on either side. The first floor includes three 2-light casements.
The left side of the house is slate-hung, with a gable that projects above the eaves level, supported by carved wooden brackets. The right side features a slate-hung, single-storey extension that has three stone tablets on the south gable, each with incised lettering: 'R1656B', '1656', and 'RCMC'/RhB. At the rear, there is a 17th-century outshut and a central stair turret topped with a hipped roof, which includes a planked door and casements.
Inside, the farmhouse has mid-18th-century newel stairs with turned balusters in the turret, some 17th-century panelling, and planked doors. The timber-framed jetty, which is now encased in the outshut, features a hollow-chamfered jetty plate. The roof consists of four bays with raking struts to the principals and butt purlins. Originally, the building was a four-bay timber-framed house with a jetty on the east side, which was rebuilt in the 17th century with the addition of the outshut and stair turret, and later refaced in brick in the late 18th century.
