Description
The Wesleyan Chapel and Sunday School, dated 1902, is constructed from rock-faced rubble stone with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof with coped gables. This single-storey building is arranged in an L-plan, with the chapel gable-ended facing the street and the school attached to the right. Designed in a Free Gothic style, the south facade includes a prominent 5-light window above two smaller 2-light windows, all with hoodmoulds. The southwest corner is cut away to create an entry with a cusped ogee head, leading to a pointed 6-panel door. The southeast corner features a decorative ashlar porch with an ogee roof, vaulted interior, a flattened ogee arch to the south, and a narrow side arch to the east, complemented by iron gates. Inside, the chapel and school have moulded stone surrounds to their doors. The school has two pointed 2-light windows on the south and two similar windows on the east gable. The chapel's west side has two pointed 2-light windows, and the north end features a short chancel with a large 4-light window. The interior remains unaltered, showcasing complete fittings, a boarded 3-bay roof, and pierced vine-leaf rails on the balustrades. This building is included as an unaltered example of chapel design from around 1900.
