Description
The Barn is a former stable building from the late 18th century or early 19th century that was converted into a house around 1900. It is constructed of squared rubble stone with ashlar dressings and features a stone slate half-hipped roof. Around 1900, ashlar stacks with diagonal shafts were added. The picturesque Gothick style is evident on the northwest front, which has a projecting and canted center. The ground floor includes a three-light window with pointed lights and a hoodmould, while the first floor features a pointed former loading door with a hood. On each side, there are depressed-arched doorways with hoodmoulds and a quatrefoil light above. All openings have bead-mouldings. Additionally, small lancet windows were added around 1900 by each door. A single-storey addition was made to the south end around the same time, which includes a single lancet and a balustrade. The two-storey north end addition is divided into two sections with a recessed center, featuring lancet lights that match the original building. The stable may have originally been built for Winsley House, which has a similar Gothick window on one of its outbuildings, though the rest of the house was rebuilt in 1902.
