Description
The garden steps, located approximately 60 metres south-east of The Drum Public House in Torquay, were designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens around 1934. Constructed from red brick, these steps ascend from the garden to a terrace by the mill pond. They break through a revetment wall and the walls of a ruined section of the mill complex. Below the walls, there are 13 convex steps leading to a circular platform made of patterned brick, followed by 15 concave steps that continue up to the terrace. An additional flight of steps is located in the opposite corner, connecting the garden to another terrace where The Drum is situated. These steps are part of a particularly attractive group of listed buildings in the well-preserved village and adjacent Cockington Park.
