Description

The churchyard cross located to the south-east of the Parish Church of St John the Baptist is a medieval structure featuring a shaft and possibly a base, with the crosspiece being a restoration from the late 19th century or early 20th century. It is made of granite and stands on a red breccia plinth. The cross is supported by three breccia steps leading up to a rectangular granite base that has a moulded top. The slender, tapering, octagonal cross shaft rises to about 4 meters high and has decayed stops, with a replaced granite crosspiece at the top. This cross is an unusual survival, although it is not situated in its original position within the churchyard.
