Description

28 and 28A The Quay is a house with a shop located on the corner of The Quay in Lower Brixham. It dates from the mid-19th century and features solid rendered walls and slated roofs, including a long pent-roof on the left, a pyramidal roof in the center, and a lower parallel roof on the right that is hipped at the right-hand end. The building has four metal chimneys at the rear and stands three storeys tall, reducing to two storeys at the right-hand end due to the rising ground level.

The front has three widely spaced windows. The ground storey includes a canted bay window on the left, which now serves as the display window for the shop; it has eight panes and a moulded top cornice, likely a late 20th-century replica. To the right of the bay window is a late 20th-century plank door with a three-paned fanlight above it. Halfway up the steps leading to the building is another plank door. The other windows are box-framed, featuring two-paned sashes. Set into the wall is a blue and white glazed tile plaque inscribed "OVERGANG." The building is included for its group value.
