Description

The turnpike stone, dating from around 1838, is located on the inner edge of the pavement under the Old Fish Market in Lower Brixham. This short, round-headed piece of Devonian limestone features an inscription on its west face that reads "END OF THE DARTMOUTH & TORQUAY TURNPIKE." The stone appears to be in its original position, having been present before the Old Fish Market was rebuilt in the late 20th century.
