Description

No. 9 Fisher Street is a house dating from around 1700, with some 20th-century alterations. It has a rendered exterior and a thatched roof with a plain ridge, half-hipped at the left end and gabled at the right end. There is a stack with a rendered shaft. The house is located on a prominent corner site between Fisher Street and Curledge Street and features a single-depth main block that is two rooms wide. The left room was originally heated by a front lateral stack, while the right room was heated by a stack at the right end.

The house is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with three windows. There is a lateral stack to the left of centre with a truncated shaft. A 20th-century half-glazed front door is located to the right, accompanied by a 20th-century tiled porch hood. To the right of the door is a 20th-century bow window. The ground-floor window to the right and three first-floor windows are fitted with 20th-century two-light casements that have square leaded panes, likely in early embrasures. The left side of the house, which faces Curledge Street, has two ground-floor windows and one first-floor window.

Inside, the house has been largely modernised, including a 20th-century staircase. However, there are some features from around 1700, such as a two-panel door on the first floor and a chamfered stopped fireplace lintel in the right-hand room. Photographs owned by the current owner show a fine 18th-century chimney-piece that was previously associated with the lateral stack, indicating that the left-hand room may have served as the parlour. The roof has not been inspected but is said to consist of A-frame trusses.
