Description

The presbytery adjoining the Church of the Assumption of Our Lady was built in 1857 by architect J. Hansom. Constructed from local grey limestone rubble with freestone dressings, it features stone stacks with stone shafts. The building is part of a group that includes the church and a school on Abbey Road. It has an asymmetrical plan and stands two storeys high. The front has an asymmetrical two-window arrangement, with the right-hand bay slightly projecting forward and gabled. There are two ground floor two-light windows with stone architraves and shouldered heads. The first-floor window on the right is also a two-light window with a stone architrave but features a crank-arched head. A single-storey porch with a shoulder-headed stone doorway is attached to the right side of the building. The interior has not been inspected but may contain interesting features.
