Description
The Paignton Clink is a lock-up building located on Littlegate Road, dating from the 18th century or earlier. It is constructed from local red breccia rubble and features a slate roof. The building is a single-storey, two-cell structure with a lean-to roof. It has a doorway at the west end, which includes a breccia lintel and various remnants of ironwork related to the doors. On the north side, there is a slit window with a breccia lintel. The east end of the building shows masonry that reduces in thickness about two meters above the ground, along with evidence of external limewash. The south side of the structure is built against a tall breccia wall that extends beyond the building to the west and east. A plaque on the wall indicates that the lock-up is medieval and was last used in 1867. Inside, each cell features a barrel-vaulted breccia roof, and the connecting doorway has a breccia lintel, with remains of lime plaster visible.
