Description

The Victoria Hotel is a public house and hotel dating from the 1850s. It has a rendered exterior and a slate roof that is hipped at the left end and gabled at the right end, with stacks that have rendered shafts, platbands, and old pots. The building has a double-depth rectangular plan and is located next to an old brewery building on Princes Street.

The hotel is three storeys tall and has a cellar. Its front is asymmetrical with four windows and features a canted bay at the corner with Well Street. There are platbands at the first and second-floor sill levels. The bar frontage includes a lead-roofed fascia and three doors with rectangular overlights that have rounded upper corners; these doors are 20th-century replacements. The left-hand doors are next to a bar window supported by cast-iron columns on either side, with an additional bar window at the extreme left. The extreme right end has a 12-pane sash window and a cellar loading door.

The first and second-floor windows are primarily 12-pane sashes, except for the left-hand bay and the canted corner, which have been reglazed as 4-pane sashes with horizontal glazing bars. The canted corner originally had a doorway that has been converted to a window and is flanked by moulded pilasters with capitals. The front facing Well Street has two bays, with the bar fascia extending for one bay and featuring one window, along with blind recesses above. The left-hand side has 4-pane sashes with horizontal glazing bars and is adjacent to a single-storey service block and yard. The interior has not been inspected but may contain features of interest.
