Description

The Coach House Public House is a building with origins in the 18th century and alterations from the 19th century, while much of the interior is from the late 20th century. It is constructed from local red breccia rubble, with the render stripped off the first and second floors, leaving it as architraves around the windows. The roof is slate, gabled at the left end and half-hipped at the right end, with stacks that have rendered shafts.

The building has a double-depth plan that is three rooms wide, although most ground floor partitions have been removed. It stands three storeys tall with an asymmetrical three-window front. A fascia with a moulded cornice runs across the front above the ground-floor windows and doors. There are pilasters with channelled rustication on the left and right sides of the ground floor, as well as similar pilasters at a recessed former doorway to the right of centre. The ground floor features 20th-century windows, while the first-floor windows are fitted with 4-pane horned sashes that include horizontal glazing bars, with a shallow canted bay to the left that has a moulded cornice. The second-floor windows are late 18th century or early 19th century sixteen-pane sashes, except for the left-hand window, which matches the first-floor windows. The ground floor has been gutted, but there may be interesting features remaining elsewhere in the building.
