Description
Little Princes is a detached villa, built around the 1850s and later divided into flats. It is located on Meadfoot Road, Torquay. The building is rendered with cement and has a hipped slate roof with lead rolls and stacks, the stacks featuring rendered shafts with cornices and original chimney pots. The design is in the Italianate style.
The building was originally planned with a double-depth layout, featuring a central entrance leading to a hall and a staircase rising to the east. Externally, the building originally presented a symmetrical three-bay facade, with gables to the left and right, the bays recessed between pilasters and featuring segmental-arched openings above. A projecting porch is centrally positioned and features pilasters and a cornice below a parapet. The ground-floor windows originally had floating cornices on consoles; the right-hand window is now blocked and partially obscured by a 20th-century single-storey addition. First-floor windows are 2-over-2-pane sashes with segmental arched heads, with the left-hand window retaining its original window blind fascia. The right return now has a 20th-century doorway but retains the original round-headed stair sash with margin panes and stained glass. The interior has not been inspected but may contain features of interest. Little Princes is part of a group of detached villas on Meadfoot Road and is notable for its cement rendering.
