Description

Lanscombe Lodge Cottage and adjoining stables date from the mid-19th century and originally served as a lodge to Lanscombe House. The building is constructed of local stone rubble with red brick dressings, red brick chimney shafts topped with old pots, and a slate roof, with some areas replaced using asbestos slates. The plan is L-shaped. The stable and coach house face southwest, backing onto the road, while a crosswing containing the cottage faces northwest onto a front garden.

The cottage itself has a two-room plan and two storeys. The front elevation features two ground-floor windows to the left of the doorway, which has a segmental-arched head, an original plank door with decorative ironwork (ferramenta), a narrow overlight, and a gabled hood. A single gabled half dormer is present. Most windows are casement windows with glazing bars. A third window to the left of the coach house has a slatted window, with three further windows on the left return side, facing the road. The stable and coach house block has a large coach house doorway to the left of three stable doors, and a first-floor loading hatch set under the gable. Both wings have half-hipped roofs. The lodge, stables, and coach house contribute to a visually appealing group of listed buildings within an unspoilt village setting and overlook the adjoining park.
