Description
Moredon Aqueduct is an aqueduct built to carry the North Wilts Canal over the River Ray, constructed between 1813 and 1819. It features three brick culverts, each consisting of one brick ring. The structure has a stone string above and high walls built in English bond, with end piers and curved wing walls. It is topped with stone copings. As of June 1985, the aqueduct was derelict, with the downstream wall partially collapsed. This aqueduct is the only significant monument of the canal that connected the Wilts and Berks Canal at Swindon to the Thames and Severn Canal at Latton, greatly facilitating navigation from the west to London while avoiding the upper Thames.
