Description
The Richard Jefferies memorial is a chest tomb made of limestone, dating from the 19th century. It commemorates Richard Jefferies, who died in 1825, along with his daughter Fanny, James Luckett Jefferies, who died in 1850, his grandson William George Hall, who died in 1899, and his daughter Ellen Luckett, who died in 1845. The memorial also mentions another Richard Jefferies, who died in 1832. The tomb features fielded panels and recessed fluted corner pilasters. This memorial marks the family of Richard Jefferies, the writer, although he is buried in Worthing. The memorial is located in the churchyard of the Church of Holy Rood, 13 meters north of the chancel.
