Description

The wall surrounding the graveyard of Holy Rood Church dates from the 18th century and likely has earlier origins. It is constructed of rubble limestone topped with stone coping. The wall is retained on the west side and is attached to the garden wall of the former 'Lawn' at the north end. There is a rusticated arch against the garden wall and a disused 4-centred moulded arch, both of which feature a downward sweep. At the south end, there are four stepped buttresses. The wall continues along the south side of the graveyard and on the west, where it supports wrought iron railings.
