Description
No. 46, Highworth High Street is an early 19th-century building fronting onto the Market Place, built forward of a mid-17th-century structure. It was formerly the Holy Lamb public house. The front of the building is two storeys high, constructed of rubble with brick quoins and quoined brick dressings. It has a low-pitched stone tile roof, hipped in form. There are six sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor, and one on the ground floor. A shop front occupies the centre right, while a six-panel door is located to the left of centre, both with stone lintels above.
The older section of the building is visible behind the front and extends to two and a half storeys, featuring two gabled dormers and a stone tile roof. A substantial chimney stack is situated on the left side with two diagonal brick shafts rising from a weathered and stepped stone base. A further brick chimney is set off the ridge on the right-hand gable. On the right-hand gable, the front of the building connects to a two-storey extension. Also on this gable is a panel displaying a faded and illegible date, appearing to resemble A.D. 1566, accompanied by an unusual device potentially resembling a woolmark. A further two-storey extension is located to the north-east.
