Description

West Hinton House is a large house, partly dating from the early 18th century, with extensions added in the later 18th century and alterations made when the slate roof was installed. The front elevation is of chalk, while the rest of the building is constructed from sarsen and mixed rubble with ashlar quoins; the sides and rear feature chalk bands at ground floor lintel level. The older part of the house is of coursed and dressed rubble. The roof is slate, with two brick chimneys and two gabled dormers. It has five windows on the left and two on the right. The left-hand, older part has glazing bar sash windows, while the right-hand part has three-light casement windows, some with old catches. A roughly central, gabled modern porch with an arched entrance has been added. A datestone inscribed * L * I * A 1 7 2 7 is on the first floor to the left of the centre. The east gable end retains two openings with keystones.
