Description

Hinton Manor is a manor house dating from the 17th century, significantly altered in the mid-19th century and the early 20th century. The main block is two and a half storeys with four bays. The construction incorporates rubble and brick, with brick dressings predominating in the right-hand portion. The roof is covered in stone tiles. The mid-19th century features diagonal shafts to the brick chimneys and two gabled dormers on the left-hand side. Windows are three-light casements with applied timberwork in the gables. A two-storey angled bay window was added to the left in the early 20th century. A Doric portico is situated to the left of the centre of the facade. The rear elevation is more irregular, with a lower stone portion and a brick upper portion. It features three plus one bays, and a central two-and-a-half storey gabled square bay, together with a one-and-a-half storey two-bay brick and stone tile extension to the right, which sits on a sarsen stone footing. A mid-19th century stable wing is attached to the north, incorporating two gabled dormers and a wide coachway. Further attached stables and outbuildings extend to the east, including a small mid-19th century barn with a thatched and weather-boarded exterior.
