The Retreat is an early 19th-century building located on the south side of High Street in Broad Blunsdon. It is a two and a half storey structure with a pebbledash exterior and a slate roof, featuring rendered end chimneys. The building has two gabled dormers and three sash windows with glazing bars and raised surrounds. A projecting portico is supported by fluted columns with lotus caps, and it has a moulded cornice and a slight pediment above the front entrance, which includes a half-glazed door. To the right of the building, there are tall ashlar incised gatepiers and an adjacent 1 and a half storey rubble coach house.
