Description

The Burne monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 22 metres northwest of the west porch of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Tormarton. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of limestone. The top of the tomb features a shallow pediment on each side, adorned with acroterial ornaments at the corners. It has corner pilasters with recessed panels and a plain plinth. Inscription panels are present on all sides, paired to the north and south with moulded surrounds. The tomb commemorates Henry Burne, who died in 1833, along with other family members.
