Blanchard's Farmhouse

II*

C15 origins, altered in C17, C18 and C19 and recently restored. Important interior.

Entrance elevation. Rubble. Modern tiled roof. Two storeys. Two windows, glazing bar sashes (one 16 pane) in plain stone surrounds. Short projecting south wing with modern casements. One storey projecting porch in re-entrant angle.

Rear elevation. Rendered. Projecting modern north wing to east (left). Main block, to right: 2 storeys; 3 windows, one glazing bar sash, one 4-light oak mullion casement, one modern casement; central plank door.

Interior: Formerly cross passage with a room to either side. To left (east) of rear door; an C18 room with panelled doors, dado and cupboard to either side of modern fireplace, cornices.

To right (west) of rear door: turned baluster ventilation panel at top of internal wall; large low wooden lintel, stop chamfered beams.

Easternmost room has winder stair up to attic with panelled door at bottom and adjoining cupboard. Considerable remains of mediaeval roof: 2 collar trusses, supported on wooden blocks in the walls (corbels?), with cusped arch braces. Five bays with windbracing, although roof space is now subdivided.
