Description
Fewster's Farmhouse has origins dating back to the 15th century and underwent alterations and extensions in the 17th century. The building is rendered with a double Roman tiled roof and features a brick diagonal chimney on rubble stacks. It has one storey and attics, characterized by five steep gables and five modern casement windows. The entrance, which is off-centre to the right, has a plank studded door behind a later lean-to porch.
Inside, the layout is not entirely clear but shows at least two distinct phases of construction. The left side (west) was formerly a medieval open hall house with two windows. The roof includes one smoke-blackened truss and remnants of windbracing. Below, there are ovolo-moulded beams with run-out stops and an elaborately moulded overmantel. The right side (east), which has three windows, was remodeled in the mid-17th century but has mostly been modernized. It features stop-chamfered beams, and the interior of the main door is adorned with strap hinges that have open scroll ends.
