Description
St Arild's House is a late 18th century to early 19th century building located on Kington Lane in Thornbury. The house is rendered and features a slate roof with a blocking course. It stands three storeys tall and has three windows, which include 16-pane glazing-bar sashes and segmental plan bow windows on the ground floor. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door with a fanlight, sheltered by a hood with returns. At the rear, there is a single-storey extension with an ashlar base and a balustrade parapet. Inside, the interior is mostly intact, showcasing six-panel doors and an open wall staircase with an open string and turned balusters. The name St Arild or Arilda refers to a local Saxon martyr, and the nearby church at Oldbury is the only one dedicated to her.
