Description

The Hatherell monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 7 metres southwest of the tower of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Tormarton. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of sandstone. The tomb features a hipped top and a moulded base, with bolster ends on the east and west sides that include a shield and a roll-moulded cornice. There are shaped inscription panels on the north and south sides, which are partly painted but in poor condition with significant spalling. The monument commemorates William Hatherell, who died in 1830, along with other family members.
