Description
Newhouse Farmhouse and the attached stable are a farmhouse dating from the 18th century, with early 19th century and 20th century alterations. The building is constructed of rubble, rendered on the front and left sides, with stone dressings and long and short quoins. It features a stone-tiled, two-span roof with raised coped verges and gable stacks, forming a U-plan layout. The farmhouse is 2½ storeys high and has three windows, all of which are plate-glass sashes with side-lights. The first floor has a central 4-pane sash window, and there is a central gabled porch topped with a ball finial and a trellis bargeboard. The porch contains a panelled and glass door with an overlight. There are two gables on the front, each with a sash window.
The left return of the building has a 20th century window at the first floor, while the right return features a single-storey lean-to. At the rear, there is a ground floor 3-light casement window to the left and a 2-light casement to the right, both with relieving arches. The first floor has three 2-light casements, and there is a central 4-centred arched opening leading to a triangular recess with a segmental-headed 4-pane window to the left and a door to the right. Attached to the right is a 2-bay single-storey outhouse with two doors. To the left, there is a 2-bay 1½ storey wing with two 2-light casements, a lower attached wing with an open passage, a 4-pane casement, and a door with a segmental head. At a lower ground level, there is a stable block attached, which includes two doors, three windows, and two open-fronted bays supported by ashlar piers. The interior is not accessible.
