Description

Lyegrove House is an early 17th-century building with a late 18th-century east wing. It underwent alterations in the late 19th century and was restored in 1927 by G. H. Kitchin for the Earl of Westmorland. The house is rendered and features a Cotswold stone tiled roof. It has two storeys and attics with four curvilinear gables, likely added in the late 19th century. The façade includes four windows with glazing bar sashes set beneath string courses and drip moulds on both the ground and first floors. A central porch projects from the front, supported by Tuscan columns on pedestals, with an entablature and a balustraded parapet, which is dated 1927 above the door. The gables display shields bearing the Westmorland arms, added in 1927.

The late 18th-century east wing is two storeys tall and features a balustraded parapet from 1927. It has five windows with glazing bar sashes, three of which are double height, illuminating the drawing room. There is also a projecting bay or porch with a balustraded parapet. At the rear of the east wing, there is a range of offices surrounding a courtyard, which were previously used for domestic and storage purposes, as well as for servants' quarters and a nursery.

Inside, the staircase hall features a staircase in the style of the 17th century, constructed from original 17th-century parts by Kitchin. There is a Renaissance fireplace dated 1633, which is said to have been brought from Little Sodbury Manor, bearing the initials ESa (for Edward and Ann Stephens) and TS, ES, and IS (for Thomas, Edward, and James Stephens). The drawing room in the late 18th-century east wing has a well-crafted carved pine fireplace.
