Description
The retaining walls to the terrace date from probably the mid-19th century and are designed in the style of Renaissance fortifications. They are constructed from coursed rubble with ashlar coping and feature embrasures at wide intervals. At the west end, the walls create a raised square "terreplain" with corner bastions. Beneath this square is a long barrel-vaulted storage chamber, which may have served as an ice-house and is accessible from field level. The terrace itself might have been used as a bowling green.
