Description
The Brookman monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 17 metres southwest of the west porch of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Tormarton. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of limestone. The tomb features a flat top with a moulded edge and a moulded base. Its lyre ends on the east and west sides are adorned with swags and acanthus. There are oval inscription panels, with two panels on the south side displaying a central design of twined branches and leaves, and two raised oval panels on the north side featuring leaves and a central phoenix. The monument commemorates Charles Brookman, who died in 1809, along with other family members. This monument is one of a pair, with the other located about a metre due north.
