Description
The Hatherell monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard approximately 14 metres southwest of the tower of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Tormarton. This tomb dates from the late 18th century and is made of sandstone. It features a flat top with a moulded edge and a moulded base, supported by slender quarter balusters. The sides of the tomb are plain, except for the north side, which has a shaped inscription panel adorned with sharply carved festoons of leaves and flowers, along with tendrils carved at the top and bottom. The monument commemorates Abraham Hatherell, with the earliest decipherable date being that of his wife, Ann, from 1772.
