Description
The Arnold monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 23 metres southwest of the west porch of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Tormarton. It dates from the 18th century and is made of limestone with sandstone inscription panels on the north and south sides. The tomb features a flat top with a moulded edge, a moulded base, and lyre ends on the east and west. The concave sides of the lyres are adorned with festoons, and there are oval panels on the east and west. The south panel is decorated with twined ribbons and leaves, while the north panel displays a floriate urn. This monument commemorates William Arnold, who died in 1790, along with other family members. It is part of a group of three Arnold monuments, with the other two located about 1 metre north and 2 metres south of this tomb.
