Description

This is a late 16th or early 17th century building on the High Street in Sodbury. It is constructed of rubble, with a render on the side facing Horse-shoe Lane, and has a double Roman tile roof. A brick stack is present, featuring stone cornices, alongside moulded stone ridge tiles. The building has an L-shaped plan with gables facing the High Street, Horse-shoe Lane and the return frontage down the High Street, which also serves as the entrance facade. Each gabled section has a single window. The ground floor windows are from the early 19th century and are tripartite sash windows with moulded stone surrounds and mullions. The first floor windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set in moulded stone surrounds. A small single-light casement window sits in a moulded surround in the attic. A panelled door is situated under a flat stone hood supported by brackets.

Inside, a fireplace with a moulded depressed arch is present (though it has been moved from its original location). A single-storey wing to the rear includes two-light oak mullion windows and a plank and batten door. On the modern staircase, a plank door with scratch-moulded edging and iron hinges features an architrave with a double-ovolo moulding incorporating a run-out stop and a niche. An upper baluster screen provides ventilation. The building also has chamfered beams with stepped stops.
