Description

The Webb Monument is a late 18th-century chest tomb located in the churchyard, 10 meters south of the chancel of the Church of St. Michael in Winterbourne. It is made of sandstone and features a flat top with a moulded edge. The tomb is adorned with quarter balusters and finely carved double panels on the north and south sides, which include low relief cherub heads. The base of the tomb was noted to be sunk at the time of the survey. This monument is dedicated to Nehemiah Webb, who died in 1774, along with other family members. It is the only chest tomb from the 18th century in reasonable condition among many 18th-century headstones in this churchyard.
