Description

The Watkins chest tomb, located 3.5 metres southeast of the southeast corner of the south transept of the Church of St Mary, is a chest tomb that may belong to James Watkins, who died in 1785, though it could be an earlier tomb. It is made of limestone ashlar and features square panels with enriched sides and 'lyre shaped' ends. This chest tomb is part of a notable collection of local and classical tomb forms, significantly enhancing the setting of the church.
