Description

The Alway chest tomb, located 15 metres south of the south porch of the Church of St Mary, is a Grade II listed structure. This chest tomb commemorates Thomas Alway, who died in 1821. It is made of sandstone ashlar and features inscribed square panels adorned with low relief drapery, corner balusters, and a moulded plinth and cornice. The chest tombs are notable examples of both local and classical tomb designs and significantly enhance the church's setting.
