Description

This barn, located about 35 metres north of Old Manor, dates back to the 16th century and has undergone later alterations and additions. It is constructed of rubble with a pantiled roof that features a central break in the roofline, and there is an asbestos slate covering on the gable above the north cart entry. The barn has a cruciform plan, including central cart entries to both the north and south. The south front includes outshut extensions on either side of a blocked cart entry, with ventilation slits present on all sides. There is a single-storey extension to the north, a 20th-century cart entry on the east side, and a single-storey extension on the west side.

Inside, the barn consists of nine bays, with three arched-brace and collar trusses on the west side, which feature two wind-braces in one bay on the north slope. The east side has three collar and upper collar trusses with plated yokes, and there is one 20th-century truss to the west of the cart entry. One truss to the east of the cart entry has a jointed base cruck that rises from a high point below the top of the wall on the north slope, along with an arched-brace and collar. A short 20th-century wall plate replaces the base of the former cruck on the south side, and there is a pair of upper cruck blades above the collar. The barn mostly features two purlins, with some areas on the east end of the north slope having three purlins.
