MARSHFIELD C.P. GEORGE LANE ST 77 SE 10/55 Castle Farmhouse, including rear Service Wing and rear G.V. Garden Walls, and gates and railings

Farmhouse. Circa 1800, extended C.1850. Coursed squared rubble; slate and C20 tiled roof concealed behind embattled parapet; moulded cornice. In a castellated Gothic style. Asymmetrical and irregular elevation of 2 storeys with advanced section to right, square tower at right end and large octagonal tower to rear. 3 bays: 2-light casement windows with 4-centred and segmental heads in plain stone surrounds and under drip moulds; pointed windows in tower. Central plank door in pointed stone surround and under drip mould. Rear elevation: plank door in gabled porch with ball finials. Rear wing: mansard roof, projecting central 2 storey porch; formerly dairy, kitchen, cheese loft and granary. At west end of the rear wing low rubble quadrant walls with cast iron gates and railings enclose the rear garden.
