Description

The walls and archway at the front of the Almshouses date from 1612 to 1619 and were partly restored in the 20th century. They feature low rubble saddleback walls with a roll-moulded ridge. The central gateway is made of ashlar stone, with the saddleback and roll moulding extending to the sides and across the top of the gateway. The opening has a segmental head and an ovolo-moulded surround, with a plank door added in 1965. This structure is significant as it is the first feature encountered in the village street.
